Product Descriptions

What is a product description and why is it important?

A product description is copy that describes your product and explains why it is valuable. A great product description should supply the customer in this case the store owner, with all the features and key benefits as to why they should order it for their store. This is not the time to leave out details. This is your chance to grab the buyer’s attention quickly so they stick around and place an order.

Here are some important points to remember when writing your product descriptions:

Know your audience: This is important knowledge not only with writing up your product descriptions but selling your products in general. If your product is very specific, zone in on your buyer and write descriptions that targets them and their customer. Make the buyer feel like you are talking directly to them. Beach Frames (artist #102951) gives a great description using beachy-type verbiage and clear details. This is important because if a store is buying frames they need to know the size, hardware, what size picture fits in it, etc.

What are the benefits of your product? Speak to your buyer and tell them the benefits and why their customers will love your products. Do you make oils or lotions? Describe the ingredients and how the customer will benefit when they use the product. Make tea towels? Tell the buyer how absorbent they are and how well they wash. Here is a great product description from botanicary (artist # 102426)

Tell the full story: A good product description goes into detail and tells the buyer everything they need to know about the product. Do not leave gaps where the buyer has to wonder how big, what is the width, and what is it made of. Below LITVA’s Jewelry (artist #98677) does a great job of being descriptive and forthcoming. She tells the buyer how the earrings are made, what they are made out of, and the size. By including all this information she is giving them the full story about these earrings with no room for guessing,

Words sell: This is the time to be descriptive and use words that catch the buyer’s attention and pulls them in. Jon Morrow at Smart Blogger describes these as "power words." Also, describe your product in a way that transports the buyer to the beach or forces them to think and feel something happy. Clarkware Pottery (artist# 97765) does a great job of this in this description.

Help build your brand by taking the time to create great product descriptions. Give the buyer everything they need to decide to order from you. Remember, the buyer has choices and if they don’t understand what a product is because little is told, they will move on to another maker.

Now take a look at your product descriptions! Create the most powerful product descriptions you can. We can assure you this will help in increasing your sales.
